The week ahead – hmmm busier than I thought
It’s the start of another new week and I thought it may be fun for you to know what goes on behind the Mac and the camera.
I’ve just come through a horrifically busy 2 or 3-week period where everything just felt like it was all running away from me. Finally last Thursday, I began to come up for air and it felt great. I’ve never been a holiday kind of person, but the last few days have felt like a mini-break – so much so, that this morning it felt tough to snap myself back into action.
And that is part of the battle of doing this content creation lark – motivation. There is no one cracking a whip over you to get things done you have to be your own taskmaster. Generally, that is a strength of mine, but today, geez, I have to be honest, it was a struggle.
As much as I say I took time off over the weekend, I was still doing bits – story-boarding this week’s video and filming some unboxing too (I have a new pair of earbuds to check out this week that go with the Nothing Phone 2). I also filmed my CTA (the call to action where I plead for subs!) and began using the earbuds so that I could chat about them.
There were viewer & readers comments to answer, a couple of shorts to post and pack the newsletter together ready for that to land with the members on a Sunday. By the way, if you want to receive that free video newsletter then leave me your details here.
And that was a weekend off! So to the week ahead…
Most days start with writing and having found Substack, I’ll now split my time between writing here and on Medium. Writing a full story for Medium normally takes me about 3 hours from start to finish and once that is written and posted it’s on to the next part of the day.
For me, that’s YouTube time.
Mondays are scripting and filming days. I write at home but go to the studio to shoot the a-roll, b-roll and thumbnail shots. I try my best to get everything done on a Monday as then I can work from home Tuesday and Wednesday which are my editing days.
For the past 10 weeks, I have done an hour live stream on a Wednesday on YouTube as well – just another part of the week to factor in. The live interaction is fun.
Thursdays vary for me…every other week I record a podcast with my co-host Alex. That used to be done via Riverside FM remotely, but where possible we now record it together. It works better sitting in the same room – you just get more energy and it’s also a video podcast now as well, so again filming sitting side by side looks way better. So this week I will pretty much be out for the entire day on Thursday.
That still leaves me having to produce and upload the audio version of the podcast (Alex takes care of the video side of things) and of course, finish editing the video, create the thumbnail and then get the thing scheduled and uploaded and write as much as possible.
I’ve got a feeling this will end up being a 6 day week – I can just see it coming, but hopefully without too many late nights and I hope stress-free.
The one thing I need to get back to though is getting out more. Somehow that has passed me by recently as things have got busier. For the longest while I made sure to get out for a 40-minute walk every day and I loved it – just time away and out in the fresh air. But as I’ve got busier that’s been pushed to one side – I need to find that time back again, I really do.
So there you go – if you don’t see me on here for the next couple of days, you’ll know it’s not for want of trying…but I think it’s just going to be one of those weeks!
